Revisiting The Past To Uncover Insight For Future

Recently, I spoke with a close family neighbor whom I grew up with in my hometown of Arima in Trinidad.

In our discussions, we uncovered a lot of information that painted a clearer picture for each one of us to see.

What I grew to realize is that the recollections gave me insight into my own life. Understanding the deeper meaning of life for me going forward.

I soon became aware of the 'why' for our existence.

We think about how we can transcend our present situation and circumstances if we are not dealt a good hand in life.

The fact is, 'then' and 'now,' we still have to come to terms with it. We were dealt that hand for a reason.

The reason is love, plain and simple.

There is a statement or a final warning 'to make peace with your Maker before we die.' I do not think we should wait for the end of our lives to do so.

Saying "I love you" and "Please forgive me for anything I did that was unkind to you" goes a long way to making peace amongst those of us still remaining.

Making peace is like the golden rule!

The Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Luke 6:31

This verse emphasizes the importance of treating others with the same kindness and consideration that you would expect in return.

It's a principle of reciprocity and empathy, encouraging people to put themselves in others' shoes and act accordingly.

This applies to family, friends, or community. Even in representative politics and also in our other relationships, whatever they may be.

Neighbors cut across all boundaries.

We cannot get away from our Godly responsibilities. To love our neighbors - is to love our brothers and sisters.

If we grew up with blood siblings, we learn to love and to share what we have, like our parents tried so hard to teach us.

To view those kindred souls in our home with compassion, feeling the warmth of togetherness.

What we should have learned in our formative and developmental years would have served us for the rest of our lives.

For we are not better than anyone, and if we rise above the fold, what does that do if we do not share our bounties?

We are here to contribute to the well-being of others. In every way, shape, or form, we should be loving, considerate, caring, and kindhearted.

Then, and only then, we would know the true meaning of peace.

"Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7

A Good Name Is Better Than Riches

The Value Of Reputation And Character Over Material Wealth

A sincere reputation, earned through honorable behavior and integrity, is more enduring and valuable than riches.

Biblical proverbs highlight the importance of a good name and favor as being more desirable than material possessions.

"A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." Proverbs 22:1

A person's reputation, how they are perceived by others, is more valuable than wealth.

A good name is built on integrity, honesty, and positive actions and is seen as more lasting and impactful than riches.

Being respected and well-regarded by others is more important than accumulating wealth.

Build a good reputation rather than pursuing wealth.

Proverbs 22:23 emphasizes the importance of not oppressing the poor simply because they are in a vulnerable financial situation.

Our moral obligation is to treat everyone with fairness and compassion, regardless of their social or economic status. Treating everyone with kindness and dignity, regardless of their background or achievements.

"The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor." Proverbs 22:9

Living humbly is not needing to boast or seek validation.

It's a way of life that prioritizes gratitude, service, and a genuine connection with others, rather than focusing on material possessions or social status.

"If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:2
